Tourists tend to miss this beautiful Irish castle that sits on the edge of a scenic cliff. Dunluce Castle is one of the magnificent scenes that you will find when driving around the coast of Northern Ireland .

It is one of the top things to do in Co Antrim and is an ideal attraction for tourists who are staying in Belfast , which is just over an hour's drive away. It will also be recognizable for Game of Thrones fans as it was used to film a number of scenes for the hit fantasy show.

Dunluce is located in the Bushmills area of Antrim. Here, you will also find the world's oldest in-operation whiskey distillery.

The ruined albeit well-preserved remains of Dunluce Castle tower over the coast as the castle hangs over the cliffside. When you see it, you'll know exactly why people love to visit this place.

The castle ruins date mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries. However, there is evidence of settlement from the first millennium.

According to researchers, it was inhabited by both the feuding McQuillan and MacDonnell clans. Pictures of this place show how breathtaking it is but like most things, it is better to be seen in person.

In addition to the ruins of the castle itself, there are also exhibitions and information you can learn about the site while you are visiting. The site is open throughout the year but might be closed during times of extreme weather conditions.

On Tripadvisor, tourists have rated the castle quite highly. One person described it as "unexpectedly amazing" The traveler said: "This was not on our itinerary but was so close to the Giants Causeway we stopped in. An excellent castle on a cliff. You get a good sense of why it was put there. Very well done brochure explaining the architecture and life in the castle as it once was."

Another said: "The medieval ruins of Dunluce Castle are striking, full of a rich history that began in the 13th century. The way it sits on the edge of the cliff is fascinating."
