The “Euphoria” teens are officially exiting high school as production on Season 3 now has a start date.

The hit HBO series created by Sam Levinson is confirmed to resume production in January 2025. HBO announced that Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Hunter Schafer will be returning, as well as the entire principal cast.
“I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on ‘Euphoria’ in January,” Francesca Orsi, executive VP of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films, said. “We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of ‘Euphoria’ to life for the fans.”
Season 3 is expected to feature a time jump. Breakout star Elordi recently quipped that he would have to be de-aged to play a high schooler again, saying on “ The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon ” that the series will have to return “ soon ” or “they’ll have to Benjamin Button me or something.”
Elordi also seemingly confirmed the time jump, saying, “I’m assuming that we’ll have to go forward, otherwise it’s going to seem like a weird bit.”
Lead Emmy-winning actress Zendaya is confirmed to reprise her role as Rue. Zendaya has won two Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series Emmys for her portrayal of the drug-addicted teenager . Zendaya is slated to direct an episode of Season 3 , which Levinson has previously said will be a “ film noir ” centered on Rue as she “explores what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”
Sweeney is also back after confirming at SXSW 2024 that she was heading into the long-delayed production next.
It is unclear of Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo, Hunter Schafer, or Dominic Fike will return to the series. Kelvin Harrison Jr. is rumored to be joining the cast along with a slew of fresh faces for new characters due to the time jump.

Season 3 will be the first season sans Barbie Ferreira’s character Kat Hernandez after Ferreira announced her exit in August 2022. Actor Angus Cloud who played drug dealer Fez also died in 2023.
“Euphoria” has been off the air since Season 2 concluded in February 2022 . HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi told Deadline in 2023 that Levinson’s overhauled show “The Idol” took production precedent, but that “Euphoria” Season 3 is expected to air in 2025 .
“‘Euphoria’ is one of those that we had begun writing in tandem with post-production on ‘Idol’ but at this point, we don’t have countless scripts,” Orsi said. “We can’t start shooting, so the delivery of that show — ideally in 2025 — will be determined on when we can pick back up with Sam, who at this point is all pencils down and just finishing posts on ‘Idol.’”
Production was rumored to be slated for June 2023, yet the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes pushed it back. And that time jump has long been in the works: Series costume designer Heidi Bivens previously said during a Vogue interview that the new installment was first conceived of being set five years after the events of Season 2.
“There is talk of it being approximately five years in the future,” Bivens said, “and that they’re not in high school anymore. Dorothy’s not in Kansas anymore.”
HBO’s chairman and CEO Casey Bloys told The Wrap that “Euphoria” showrunner Levinson was writing Season 3 as of January 2024. Production is set to begin in Summer 2024.
