Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said she is now cancer-free after a “minimally invasive” procedure to remove a small calcification.

The Minnesota Democrat was diagnosed with Stage 1A breast cancer in February 2021 and had surgery to remove a tumor in her right breast before beginning radiation therapy later that year. In November 2021, she said “everything was clear” after her first six-month post-cancer exam.

Klobuchar wrote in an X post Friday that doctors recently found a small white spot known as a calcification at a routine six-month exam at Mayo Clinic.

“I had a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure to remove it, which was successful, and this month I will have a few days of radiation as a precaution,” she said. “Thanks to early detection and diligent follow-up visits, my doctor says I am now cancer-free.”

She encouraged people to get routine screenings, exams, and follow-up appointments.

“It made a huge difference for me, and I know it can make a huge difference for so many others,” Klobuchar said.

“Our health is not something we can ever take for granted, and this is another reminder that each day is a gift,” she added.
