Cooling centers to open in Kanawha County next week

KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Due to expected high temperatures next week, the Kanawha County Commission says several cooling centers will be available to help residents beat the heat.

Temperatures are expected to hit the upper 90s early next week, and along with the cooling centers, the commission shared some tips to keep yourself safe in the hot weather. For example, always stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, limit your time outdoors and never leave people or pets in a hot car.

The commission also urges residents to check on their neighbors to make sure they’re safe and cool, and to learn the signs of heat exhaustion and how to take action if needed.

The cooling centers for next week in Kanawha County will include:

• Hansford Center at 500 Washington St. in St. Albans
  • 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, July 15 – Friday, July 19
• Dunbar Senior Center at 2601 Fairlawn Ave. in Dunbar
  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 15 – Wednesday, July 17
• Marmet Recreation Center at 8505 MacCorkle Ave. SE in Marmet
  • 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily
• Pratt City Hall at 200 Center St. in Pratt
  • 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily
• Belle City Hall at 1100 E Dupont Ave. in Belle
  • 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 15-Friday, July 19
• Tyler Mountain VFD at 5380 Big Tyler Rd in Cross Lanes
  • Open daily
• Cedar Grove VFD at 306 E George St. in Cedar Grove
  • will open as a cooling center if needed
