According to The Dinner Daily, generic brands can save shoppers 25% to 30% over name-brand products. To test this, TikTok user @thegarybird compared name-brand and store-brand products at Walmart and found that his shopping cart with only store-brand items was $43 cheaper.
“I went to Walmart to see how much I could save by buying generic brand groceries over name brands,” he wrote. “I think you can totally save hundreds of dollars a month by not buying name brands.”
To get the best bang for your buck, here are the top Walmart essentials that you shouldn’t buy anywhere else.

For only $4.97, this 28-pack of Sam’s Choice 20-ounce plastic water bottles is a better deal than what you’d find at dollar stores, but shoppers on Walmart.com said they’re difficult to find in stock.

These oil and alcohol-free makeup remover cleaning towelettes from Equate come in a pack of two with 40 towelettes each. This product has over 6,300 reviews on Walmart.com, and shoppers say they work just as well as, or even better, than Neutrogena wipes.
It’s not Hidden Valley, but shoppers say it’s almost as good. For $3.54, you can get a 36-fluid-ounce bottle of Great Value Classic Ranch Dressing and Dip. “Why pay major money for Hidden Valley Ranch brand when this is the exact replica,” one shopper wrote on Walmart.com.
Looking for a Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleaner dupe? This 16-fluid-ounce bottle of gentle skin cleanser from Equate uses a mild, non-drying formula for even the most sensitive skin. This product has over 1,000 reviews on Walmart’s website, and consumers say it compares to more expensive brands at a much lower price.
