Dogs have the most empathetic souls. They can detect when something's not quite right. Sasha the German Shepherd is the perfect example for checking on her senior brother Jake while he sleeps.
In the most heartwarming TikTok video posted by @motherofshepherds , darling Sasha loves her brother so much and just wants to make sure he's okay. See the sweet video and prepare to fall in love.
"She's such a good girl," the caption says. "Our senior pup was named Jake, and we lost him last year 3 months after losing Riley, so this video is so precious."
The clip, which says, "Our senior dog was whining in his sleep, [and] Sasha was so concerned," shows Jake sleeping peacefully on the couch with Sasha standing guard over him. He seems to be making the slightest little whines as he dreams and Sasha's concerned. She carefully puts her nose up against Jake possibly trying to arouse him awake. When he doesn't budge, she's sure not to let him out of her sight.
Many others agree that Sasha is an angel on earth.
"Sasha is such a loving soul," one person wrote. "Aww that is a real nurse," another added. "We don't deserve dogs," another said, and they're so right. Dogs are just too amazing.

Can Dogs Smell Illness?
With Jake's decline in health and age, it appears as though Sasha is aware something's not quite right. GoodRx explains that not only can dogs sense when another dog or human is sick, they can also detect cancer , diabetes, migraines, seizures, Parkinson's disease, and COVID-19.
Because a large part of dogs' brains are intended to understand scentsâ their sense of smell is 10,000 times more accurate than humansâthey become really good at picking up when scents change, as they do when illness occurs. This is why service dogs are so important, or even companions to elder dogs. They can even smell feelings !
Some things dogs may do if they notice a change in scent, possibly detecting an illness or disease:
- Touch, lick, or poke their nose at certain body parts
- Retrieve dropped items such as a phone
- Wake their owner if they sense the ownerâs blood sugar is too high or too low
- Help provide balance for someone with a neurological disorder
- Signal certain sounds for deaf owners
- Nudge someone away from danger
Sasha is a very good girl for taking such good care of Jake and we're positive he knew this even while sleeping. Everyone's rightâwe truly don't deserve dogs!
