Gallery Exhibit: “Pack Horse Librarians of Kentucky”

The library is hosting an interactive exhibit that includes historical photographs, vintage memorabilia, and sound and video clips honoring the Pack Horse Librarians of Eastern Kentucky. One of the most innovative of President Roosevelt’s WPA programs, the Pack Horse Librarians were a remarkable group of Kentucky women who not only brought books to countless Appalachian families during the Great Depression, but also brought hope. The exhibit is offered in conjunction with the Boyle County Public Library; Heather Henson, author of That Book Woman; Pioneer Playhouse, Kentucky’s oldest outdoor theatre; and the Grace Doherty Library at Centre College. The exhibit will be on display in the Georgia de Araujo Gallery at the library from July 3-27.

Information about library resources and all upcoming events can be found online at BoylePubLib.org. The library is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM; Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30 AM – 8:00 PM; and Saturday from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  Chat with library staff using the live chat service on the library’s website or by texting (859)-545-8398.
