BOONE COUNTY, Iowa — Last year the Animal Rescue League of Iowa rescued over 100 dogs from what they described as a puppy mill in Boone County. Now, the ARL says the breeder is no longer in operation and the rescue has taken in 46 more dogs from the property.

In September the ARL was called to a rural property near Ogden by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office. The ARL found dozens of puppies and dogs living in their own excrement, and the animals had matted fur.

On Thursday the ARL announced that the breeder was no longer in operation and that the rescue took in another 46 dogs and puppies from the property.

According to the ARL, most of the dogs and puppies are suffering from matted fur, and will need medical and dental surgeries, and behavioral help.

No information about the breeder has been released.
