A new Food Lion location is opening soon in the Triangle.

The grocery store will be at 55 Ford Meadows Drive in Johnston County .

A grand opening will be held on July 24 , beginning at 7:45 a.m. The “movie premiere” theme will include free popcorn, candy, water and prizes.

Food Lion’s first store in the Raleigh area opened in 1975, and it has since expanded across the Triangle.

In an interview with The News & Observer in June , Food Lion President Meg Ham said that the company is investing $350 million in remodel stores in the Raleigh and Durham areas, with store renovations expected to be completed in August.

New decor and new ways to shop, such as self-checkout and Food Lion To-Go pickup and home delivery, are among the upgrades coming to stores. Food Lion, which first opened in Salisbury, North Carolina, in 1957, is also increasing its product assortment, with a focus on ready-to-eat, ready-to-heat and ready-to-cook meals.

    • 217 Timber Drive

Other grocers have announced expansion plans for the area:

    • Wegmans hopes to open a store in Holly Springs in 2027.
    • Publix will open stores in Rolesville, Garner and Raleigh. All three are expected to open in 2025 , each employing about 140 associates.
