The third season of HBO’s hit drama Euphoria is finally ready to start production, with the show slated to begin filming in January of 2025.

“I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January,” Francesca Orsi, executive vp HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter . “We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.”

Season 2 aired in 2022, but the show began facing delays after Angus Cloud, who played fan favorite Fezco, died of an overdose last year. Variety reported in March that the show’s season three script was facing challenges such as rewrites, which put the show’s return timeline up in the air. In a statement, HBO said at the time that the show would return without specifying any dates.

“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” HBO told Variety . “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

Euphoria remains one of HBO’s most important programs for attracting younger audiences, even as the show and its creator Sam Levinson have courted controversy. As HBO suggested, Euphoria has turned many of the show’s cast including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer into major stars, making scheduling more complicated to accommodate their busy film schedules.

HBO didn’t give any indication on when to expect season 3 to run, though it’s hard to imagine it will air in the immediate future. Given Cloud’s death and how long it will have been since season 2 by the time production is complete, it’s not unreasonable to expect there will be a time jump to advance the story further.
