GameMill Entertainment has announced The Karate Kid: Street Rumble, a game that will relive the events of the original movie trilogy. The 16-bit-style side-scrolling beat ’em up game will be released for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 20, 2024.

The Karate Kid: Street Rumble follows the events of the 1980’s movies

The game is set in the 1980’s and will follow the narrative of the first three The Karate Kid movies. Enemies like Cobra Kai are trying to establish dominance over Miyagi-Do karate. It’s up to playable characters Daniel LaRusso, Mr. Miyagi, Ali Mills, and Kumiko to take on waves of enemies as they try to defeat them in the ultimate underdog story.

The campaign features 12 stages set across locales from San Fernando Valley and Okinawa, such as Topanga Beach, West Valley High, Cobra Kai Dojo, and the All Valley Tournament. Each of the stages ends in a boss fight against villains like Johnny Lawrence, John Kreese, and Terry Silver.

GameMill promises a “frenetic experience of constant fighting with a retro-revival feel” and players need to master signature moves like the crane kick, powerful combos, and defense. The campaign can be taken on solo or in local co-op for up to four players.

The old-school side-scrolling beat ’em up experience is presented in classic 16-bit-era graphics and has a retro chiptune soundtrack with “classic-style tunes.” Players will be hoping that returning to the traditional style of fighting games will replace the bad memories of the last Karate Kid game from two years ago, Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising, which was not received well by critics and got mixed reviews from players.
