Screven Co. authorities continue search for missing man with GBI assistance

SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – The GBI is helping the Screven County Sheriff’s office in a search for a missing man.
According to Sheriff Mike Kile, Kary Prescott was last seen in Screven County June 23.
“The longer he’s been gone, the more difficult it is to pick it up,” said Kile. “For someone to be gone three weeks it’s hard to pick up anything.”
Sheriff Kile says they had a late start to their investigation. Family reported Prescott missing this weekend after he threw a block party and never showed up.
“We understand people are highly upset,” said Kile. “Their loved one is missing. They can’t find him. We want to find him. We’re doing everything we can to find him.”
Deputies, Troopers, DNR and GBI investigators have all been on the hunt this week, Kile says, using drones, sonar, airplanes and searching on foot. Still, the trail is cold. The Sheriff’s Office shared his missing poster on Facebook Friday afternoon after News 3 spoke with the sheriff.
“I’ve known him for years,” said Kile. “He’d be back home, if he was here. The word got out to all his kinspeople, all his friends… There’s no reason for him not to come home.”
Family and friends have gone out to search for Prescott themselves, something the sheriff advises against. He says it’s risking the investigation and their own safety.
“They just don’t need to be out there with 10-15 people trooping through the woods on other people’s property, wanting to go into people’s houses,” said Kile. “You just can’t do that.”
News 3 reached out to family and friends, several posting to Facebook about a search party happening Saturday. We didn’t hear back from them.
Kile says they’re beginning to treat the case as a possible homicide and are now looking at persons of interest while continuing the search.
Anyone who might know where Prescott is, is asked to call the Screven County Sheriff’s Office at (912)564-2013 or the GBI Region 5 office at (912)871-1121
