The Fantastic Four’s Paul Walter Hauser Discusses MCU Movie Prep as Filming Start Date Nears

Paul Walter Hauser said he’s been reading a lot of comics to prepare to star in The Fantastic Four .

The Fantastic Four will be released in United States theaters in June 2025. The Marvel Studios movie is expected to begin production later this month on July 29, 2024.

Speaking with Variety , Hauser, who is playing an undisclosed character in the movie, was asked what pre-production for The Fantastic Four has looked like for him.

“Pre-production for me has been reading comic books and reading the screenplay,” he said. “A lot of it is assessing where I fit into that story and how to best utilize my time in it. You don’t want to make choices or do things that are redundant in a film. It’s important to know what the film is and what everyone’s jobs are so that you’re bringing your own unique take to something. That was incredibly important in BlacKkKlansmen. I was playing one of a half dozen racist idiots in the film, and you have to bring your own racist idiot to the table. It can’t just be everybody else’s. Whenever I’m in an ensemble, I’m trying to figure out how to be unique or specific without being distracting.”

When asked if he’s been enjoying the Fantastic Four comics he’s been reading, Hauser said, “It’s so fun, man. I didn’t really read Fantastic Four when I was a kid. I was very Batman-centric. But reading the Fantastic Four comics has been a blast. I love it.”

Along with Hauser, The Fantastic Four stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/the Thing, Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.

John Malkovich and Natasha Lyonne are also playing undisclosed roles in the Marvel movie.

The Fantastic Four releases in United States theaters on July 25, 2025, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU .
