DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A judge held a status hearing Thursday in the murder trial of Karyn Hearn-Slover .

In 2002, Michael Slover Jr. and his parents, Michael Slover Sr. and Jeanette Slover, were found guilty of murdering Slover Jr.’s ex-wife, Karyn Slover in 1996.

The Illinois Innocence Project claimed in February the Slovers were innoncent and they had DNA evidence to prove it. According to Macon County State’s Attorney Scott Rueter, the defense asked the court for more time to complete a DNA analysis.

A retrial has not been allowed yet. Rueter has argued there is no need, but a lawyer with IIP argued one is necessary.

The next court date is Oct. 16.
