There has been lots of speculation as to why Hannah Berner left Summer House —was she fired or did she quit? She joined the cast in its third season and quickly became known for her witty humor and candid personality, but announced she was leaving the show in May 2021.

“This past year has been one of the most important in my life for self-reflection, love, and learning a lot of shit. I’ve welcomed new career ventures, challenges and obstacles, and opportunities for growth. As we climb out of the emotional trenches of 2020, I look forward to an exciting summer, but with mixed emotions, I’m announcing I won’t be spending it living in the summer house,” she said at the time of her departure.

“These last three summers have truly been a whirlwind and the show has, without a doubt, changed my life and I will forever be thankful for the platform it has provided me. Making people laugh is what brings me joy and I am so excited to announce that I will be spending this summer touring my standup and telling fart jokes at comedy clubs and theaters near you. More dates and tickets to come soon, but I cannot wait to see you all in person!”

More details about her exit have come to light since, and the stand-up comedian herself has addressed what really happened.

Why did Hannah Berner get fired from Summer House ?

During an episode of Dave Portnoy’s “BFFs” podcast , the host asked if she had been fired for sponsoring a rival seltzer drink to her co-star Kyle Cooke ‘s Loverboy brand. “The truth is beef started ’cause I did an ad for Truly [Hard] Seltzer, and I didn’t know that I, like, wasn’t allowed to.” Berner insisted that “ Bravo didn’t fire” her, claiming that “some people on the cast got annoyed at [her], and then it kind of snowballed.”

She continued. “I think some of these shows become a lot of egos, and it’s like, ‘It’s my show. It’s my drink. You can’t do that.’ And there’s no rules, and it just becomes fighting over egos and screen time, and it’s not that fun after doing it for too many seasons.” A source responded to Berner’s claims to Page Six , saying they were “completely false and ridiculous.”

Previously, there was speculation that Berner’s departure was related to the negative reputation Berner began to cultivate on the show. When she announced she was leaving, Kate Chastain tweeted: “Tell me you’re fired without telling me you’re fired #summerhouse.”

Carl Radke also has his share of clashes with Berner, particularly when she accused him of taking drugs . She also made insensitive comments downplaying Luke Gulbranson’s emotional state during a February 2020 episode of the Puddles with Andrew Collin podcast that later resurfaced. She issued an apology for the latter on Instagram, but Better Help dropped their sponsorship.

“I’ve recently been made aware of some talk online regarding comments I made on a podcast two years ago referencing suicide ideation and I want to apologize for my insensitivity regarding such a serious topic,” Berner captioned the post. “I consider myself to be a very fierce advocate for mental health awareness, and I understand that I crossed the line. To everyone who has brought this to my attention, I want you to know that I hear you, and I am sorry.”
