WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — The Capitol Theatre has been undergoing some major changes this summer.

A new fly system – the rigging that holds up the curtains, lights, and audio – and plaster work have been the primary focuses of the theatre.

With these new improvements, bigger productions, new capabilities, and safer shows can be expected after the curtains close on the renovation.

“Fans will obviously know the plaster repairs, the handrails in the balcony, not so much maybe with the fly system. But it will open up the opportunity for different shows and different promoters.”

Kelly Tucker, executive director of Greater Wheeling Sports and Entertainment Authority

“Once we’ve touched this area we don’t want to touch it again for a nice long lifespan. We need to make sure everything we touch now is at least good for the next 50 years.”

Saurel Venter, Adventure in Elegance, restoration company

The estimated timeline for these projects to finish is September 1 st of this year. The theatre looks forward to opening its doors again soon.
