CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — With the aftermath of severe storms and weather that hit in early April 2024, Fayette and Nicholas county residents now have the chance to apply for FEMA assistance.

More than $2 million in disaster assistance provided for those affected by severe weather in West Virginia in April 2024

The severe storms and weather impacted 11 counties in total, which included Fayette and Nicholas counties, bringing everything from tornadoes to flooding and landslides with it.

Because of this, residents can get assistance from FEMA for things such as basic home repairs, rental assistance, and personal property losses due to storm and severe weather damage. So far, more than hundreds of survivors have registered in both Fayette and Nicholas counties.

A disaster recovery center is set up at the Nicholas County Office of Emergency Management in Summersville.

Trey Paul, a Media Relations Specialist for FEMA, explained why it is important to have these recovery centers and other ways you can connect with FEMA.

“We know a lot of people want that face-to-face interaction; they don’t want to deal with a robot, so we provide that to our survivors. You can also give us a call. You can also reach out to us again via our 1-800 number. We know a lot of people can’t make it. It’s work hours, but we are available on the weekend, so you can always stop by on the weekend or just give us a call,” said Paul.

The FEMA registration deadline is July 22, 2024. For assistance from FEMA and for more information, please call 1-800-621-3362. You can also visit their disaster recovery centers.
