There is nothing better than a sweet slice of watermelon on a hot summer day. Just ask Doug the Pug who is living his best life with a little fruity treat!

On July 9, 2024, Doug the Pug ( @dougthepug ) shared a must-see video on TikTok showing the little cutie enjoying some of nature's finest fruit. Take a look below—and turn the sound up!

The adorable 18-second clip captioned, "Another Summer, another watermelon video!" shows Doug chowing down on the best fruit of the summer, watermelon. "I just want to be as happy as a pug eating a watermelon," the video says, and we agree! It's so refreshing on a hot day. Doug's little chomps and slurps increase as he enjoys each and every bite. This is one video you need the sound up to fully appreciate his love of the fruit!

Of the famous Pug's 6 million followers, many chimed in to simply applaud his absolute focus while eating.

"Bro was feeling that watermelon," one person said. "Pug eating watermelon is now on one of my favorite things to watch," another said. "The way his face scrunches when he bites," another added.

This is one happy-making video we could watch on repeat!

    Is Watermelon Good for Dogs?

Aside from the delicious taste of watermelon, there are a ton of nutritional value with Vitamins A, C, and B-6, plus Potassium. But is it safe for dogs? PetMD says dogs can eat watermelon , both red and yellow, but there's a catch.

"Dogs that have diabetes or sugar sensitivities as well as dogs that are obese should not be given the fruit," the site says. For those that can have it, it's low in calories, has not fat or cholesterol, and is great for hydration due to its water content (hence the name!).

Also, before feeding your dog some of the sweet treat, make sure to remove seeds and rinds. The rinds can be a choking hazard and actually cause intestinal blockage if consumed, while seeds contain cyanide which, consumed in large quantities can be fatal.

The amount of watermelon a dog should eat varies by size, beginning with 1-2 slices for smaller dogs like Yorkies and Pugs, while larger dogs like German Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers can have a handful of slices. Just be sure to cut them into small pieces before serving.

Doug obviously enjoyed his watermelon and your pup can, too!
