BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Kern County firefighter and a good Samaritan were able to rescue an emotional support pig named Kelvin from the devastating fire in the South Lake community earlier this week.

The Larsen Incident destroyed three homes on July 8, the Kern County Fire Department said. Officials said harsh conditions, 110-degree temperatures led to the spread of flames in the neighborhood in the 8000 block of Main Street.

Officials said a firefighter and a neighbor went into burning building to save Kelvin and its owner. Fortunately, they were all able to escape.

A friend then helped find a temporary home for Kelvin and its owner.

In the Facebook post, forest service officials thanked the community for coming together and helping one another out.

“We want to thank our citizens of the Kern River Valley for showing each other kindness, support, compassion, and strength in hard times,” the post read. “Many others’ stories go untold, but the fact remains that we are strongest together, and good will always win.”
