When dogs get excited, they jump. It’s a classic, and something we generally try to discourage as much as we can. It’s cute, but it hurts!

One time jumping can’t be discouraged, though, is during play. Jumping is a huge part of the way dogs love to play, and without jumping, can they even really be happy? One Boxer can’t, and her mom showed us the proof of:

Rooney , I love you. She’s so excited to play and be alive!

Rooney's big hops are something she shares with just about everyone she meets. With over 20,000 followers, Rooney has gone viral several times before for her crazy moves. Sometimes she hops, while other times you can find her wiggling like a fish out of water. When she's tired herself out, she likes to nap wherever she can.

If there's one thing that really gets Rooney excited about being alive, it's a good game of fetch. She's a classic example of a Boxer having super long legs, yet not having any idea whatsoever how to control them. Waiting patiently is absolutely not in her genes; no, she has to prepare. It works out well; when mom finally throws the ball, she leaps into action!

    Boxers Need Tons of Exercise

The Boxer breed was conceived in the late 19th century and is said to be a mix of an extinct German breed, the Bullenbeisser, and the English Bulldog. The pup was meant to be a hunting companion, which is why they're mid-sized, broad-shouldered, and have very strong jaws. They also have very long limbs and short necks!

Boxers are intelligent and built for exercise . They love hunts or long hikes, and they're generally pretty social dogs. Dog parks and doggy daycares are great ways for Boxers to socialize as long as they're properly vaccinated. If you're not comfortable in those types of settings, there are plenty of other ways to ensure your Boxer's needs are met, like:

    1. Frequent walks
    2. Hikes
    3. Hunting exercises
      1. Land hunting exercises are best; they're not waterfowl retrievers.
    4. Obstacle courses that involve running, jumping, and crawling.
    5. Simpler enrichment methods like lick mats and treat puzzles.

They are considered a brachycephalic breed (they have a short snout) that can lead to breathing problems. While exercising your Boxer is important, be sure to take frequent breaks and try to keep them from overheating.

Because they're so big and square, a bored Boxer can be dangerous and destructive. Proper enrichment is the only way to make sure that your Boxer stays happy... or, in Roo's case, hoppy!
