Eminem is facing backlash over a new track that references Alec Baldwin's Rust shooting incident, in which cinematographer Halyna Hutchins lost her life.
On Friday, the revered rapper released his new album titled The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). Eminem's latest release is packed with lyrics about current events and celebrity gossip, including several disses aimed at Diddy. However, another track on the album is already sparking controversy, especially with its reference to Alec Baldwin's Rust shooting incident.
In a track titled “Fuel,” Eminem raps about guns saying “But it's in a holster, I proceed to bust it / F--- around and get popped like Halyna Hutchins / Like I'm Alec Baldwin / What I mean is buckin' you down, coup de grâce….”
The song and album were released on the third day of Baldwin’s Santa Fe manslaughter trial for the shooting, bringing the actor back into the spotlight.
Baldwin wasn't the only celebrity mentioned in Eminem's song "Fuel"; Sean "Diddy" Combs is also referenced.
“I’m like a R-A-P-E-R (Yeah) / Got so many S-As (S-As), S-As (Huh) / Wait, he didn’t just spell the word, “Rapper” and leave out a P, did he? (Yep),” Eminem raps. “R.I.P., rest in peace, Biggie / And Pac, both of y’all should be living (Yep) / But I ain’t tryna beef with him (Nope) / ‘Cause he might put a hit on me like Keefe D did him / And that’s the only way you’re gonna be killing me (Nah).”
Today, the judge dismissed the involuntary manslaughter case against Rust star Alec Baldwin on Friday after his defense attorneys questioned the handling of evidence by New Mexico law enforcement and prosecutors. This decision concludes a nearly three-year ordeal for the actor, which began in October 2021 when he accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a prop revolver during a rehearsal for the low-budget western.
