Regular hotline for Louisiana child abuse reporting back up after service issue

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The regular toll-free hotline number to report child abuse and neglect in Louisiana can be used again after service has been restored Friday.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services said the hotline and LAHelpU Customer Service Center are now working after Texas service providers were “knocked offline by Hurricane Beryl.” A temporary alternate hotline was created while downed services caused issues with receiving calls from AT&T customers due to a disconnect between local carriers and Lumen Technologies.

The Louisiana child abuse and neglect hotline is 1-855-452-5437 and the LAHelpU Customer Service line is 1-888-524-3578.

The agency said the temporary hotline will stay running for now as services continue to re-stabilize.
