ELEANOR, WV (WOWK) — It was a hot start in more ways than one for the Putnam County Fair when the gates opened Friday evening.

A crowd filled the fairgrounds filtering in and out of livestock barns, watching live entertainment, and having an all-around good time.

The annual nine-day event showcases local talent, including those involved in 4-H whose hard work is finally paying off.

Clara Chapman is a member of the Putnam County 4-H and she says raising her cow was “a lot of work and it takes a long time to do it.”

While the fair board says they want everyone to enjoy the good times, they’re also encouraging everyone to stay cool and hydrated since the weather is expected to be in the 90’s for the rest of the week.

“If you’re coming out to the fair, we want to make sure that you’re safe. Please drink lots of water. We do have shaded areas where you can go. We have cooling fans with misters on them,” Putnam County Fair Board President Krista Snodgrass says.

EMS crews are also on the grounds if an emergency should occur. For a complete list of upcoming events, click here.
