    Gearing up for an annual tradition

    LAUREL RUN BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — If you have a need for speed a long-running tradition is revving up in Luzerne County.

    The 118th Giants Despair Hillclimb is taking place this weekend in Laurel Run. Saturday morning drivers from around the nation will race their cars up the mountain.

    Friday night the Hillclimb kicked off with a music fest benefiting local fire departments.

    Hundreds came out to enjoy local vendors, great food a wide variety of live entertainment and of course to check out the cars.

    Business is booming during race weekend in Monroe County

    “All we do is race for fun trophies there’s no money it’s just for the love of the sport there’s a lot of money involved in race cars and prep but everyone just loves doing it it’s just a big family everyone loves coming together and getting together,” Darryl Danko from Luzerne County.

    The 118th annual Giants Despair Hill Climb race starts Saturday at 8:30 in the morning.
