    Stop & Shop closing more New Jersey stores than other states

    Stop & Shop, the 110-year-old supermarket chain with roughly 350 locations across the Mid-Atlantic region, is set to close 32 stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey in the fall.

    Ten of the stores are in New Jersey, the most for any one state with impacted stores.

    So, is the Stop & Shop near you closing? Here is the latest info.

    Why is Stop & Shop closing?

    Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid said the decision to close nearly three dozen stores boiled down to performance.

    "Stop & Shop is proud of the deep roots and community ties we have developed as a neighborhood grocer of more than 100 years, and we remain committed to nourishing our associates, customers and communities,” Reid said in a press release issued by Stop & Shop. "As we announced in May, Stop & Shop has evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy base for the future growth of our brand.”

    When is Stop & Shop closing?

    Stop & Shop confirmed in the news release the 32 stores set for closure will be shut down on or before Saturday, Nov. 2.

    "Stop & Shop will communicate specific store closing dates to local customers well in advance of any store closures," read Stop & Shop's press release. "Stop & Shop remains committed to serving its communities through other store locations, online shopping and home delivery services."

    Which Stop & Shop locations in New Jersey are closing?

    Stop & Shop listed in its press release the stores in New Jersey expected to close:

    • 625 Paterson Ave., Carlstadt
    • 1083 Inman Ave., Edison
    • 1049 US Highway 1 South, Edison
    • 1221 State Route 27, Franklin Township
    • 4861 US Highway 9, Howell
    • 2275 West County Line Rd., Jackson
    • 1278 US Highway 22, Phillipsburg
    • 581 Stelton Rd., Piscataway
    • 505 Richmond Ave, Point Pleasant Beach
    • 130 Skyline Dr., Ringwood

    After this round of closures, New Jersey will still have 37 Stop & Shop stores to shop from.

    Which Stop & Shop locations are closing in New York?

    In the same press release, Stop & Shop said it will close these seven locations in New York:

    • 2965 Cropsey Ave., Brooklyn
    • 294 Middle Country Road, Coram
    • 2525 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow
    • 130 Wheatley Plaza, Greenvale
    • 132 Fulton Ave., Hempstead
    • 240 East Sanford Blvd., Mt. Vernon
    • 7 Samsondale Plaza, West Haverstraw

    Stop & Shop also closing locations Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island

    Of the stores Stop & Shop are closing, 15 are located in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
