Episode 1 of the new legal workplace K-drama Good Partner aired on SBS and Viki on Friday, July 12, 2024. The first episode introduces the audience to the two female lead characters of the series, Cha Eun-Kyung (Jang Na-Ra) and Han Yu-Ri (Nam Ji-Hyun). Eun-Kyung is a star divorce lawyer at the Dawjeong Law Firm. Meanwhile, Yu-Ri is a new recruit to the law firm. The episode further shows the contradiction of ideologies between these two lawyers.
Good Partner episode 1 also sees Han Yu-Ri getting her first-ever divorce case and having to tackle that on her own under the guidance of Cha Eun-Kyung. Although she wins the case, she is quite distressed to learn that her defendant is the one at fault. The episode ends on a highly shocking note, with Yu-Ri finding out an upsetting truth.
Good Partner episode 1 spoilers
Episode 1 of the Good Partner K-drama begins with the introduction of the top divorce lawyer, Cha Eun-Kyung (Jang Na-Ra). After winning a high-budget divorce case, she comes out of a courtroom, and reporters start hovering around her with praises and questions. She is a fierce lawyer who puts her company above everything and has a strikingly good winning rate.
The episode further introduces the viewers to the other main character of the K-drama, Han Yu-Ri (Nam Ji-Hyun). She just got hired as a lawyer at the Dawjeong Law Firm. She wanted to work in corporate law, but the firm assigned her to be a divorce lawyer under Cha Eun-Kyung.
Yu-Ri is quite dissatisfied with her position as she does not like Cha Eun-Kyung’s ideology and point of view as a lawyer. The episode soon reveals that Yu-Ri had previously attended Cha Eun-Kyung’s lectures at the law university. She also has arguments with her as their ideologies completely differ.
In Good Partner episode 1, on her first day at work, Cha Eun-Kyung asks Han Yu-Ri to take up a divorce consultation. It makes Yu-Ri quite nervous, but she wants to do her best. As soon as Eun-Kyung sees the new client, she tells Yu-Ri that the man has been cheating on his wife, and that is why she should persuade him to go for a divorce settlement. However, Yu-Ri decides to rely on her educational knowledge and ideology instead of Eun-Kyung’s advice. Thus, she trusts the client and believes him when he says he has not done anything wrong to his wife.
Nam Ji-Hyun wins her first divorce case
At the court in episode 1 of Good Partner, viewers see Han Yu-Ri (Nam Ji-Hyun) fighting for her client. She tries to fulfill his wishes of not getting a divorce at all. However, soon, she realizes that her client has been lying to her and he is indeed a cheater. After the first day of the trial, Cha Eun-Kyung (Jang Na-Ra) advises her to continue on the same path of argument and get the client’s divorce canceled, as it has now become profitable for their law firm.
During the second day of the trial, Han-Yu-Ri wins all the arguments in the court in favor of her client. However, outside, she sees her client’s wife in a state of utter distress as she has been suffering badly. It turns out she has seen her husband cheating on her multiple times. She wants to get a divorce.
However, it looks like she will not be able to get the divorce due to Han-Yu-Ri’s winning arguments. At the final trial, the judge’s verdict comes, and Han Yu-Ri wins her first divorce case. However, instead of feeling happy, she feels like she has lost as she has defended a person at fault.
What happens at the end of Good Partner ep 1?
Towards the end of Good Partner episode 1, Han Yu-Ri returns to the office to check the case papers again to understand her mistake. While working, she feels even more stressed and decides to go to a particular floor, which is a relaxation place for the law firm’s workers. Cha Eun-Kyung also returns to the office and follows Yu-Ri to that floor.
After arriving there, Yu-Ri witnesses a man and a woman engaged in an intimate act. After seeing the face of the man, she realizes he is none other than Cha Eun-Kyung’s husband, who is the in-house doctor at their office. The episode ends right there with Yu-Ri in shock after realizing that Cha Eun-Kyung’s husband is cheating on her.
