While Ireland's major cities are a magnet for tourists, locals will tell you that to truly soak up the Irish experience, you need to venture into the countryside .

Enniscrone in Co Sligo is as far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life as you can get. This tranquil seaside town offers a different kind of holiday; one that encourages visitors to unwind and reconnect with themselves.

Situated on the Wild Atlantic Way , Enniscrone is famed for its seaweed, surfing and seafood. The seaweed harvested from the waters around Enniscrone has been used for seaweed baths - a local industry that the Kilcullen family has dominated since 1912.

The original Georgian building still stands proudly on the coastline, but these days a more contemporary space is utilised. Visitors are urged to experience the therapeutic properties and health benefits of seaweed baths during their stay in the town.

People from all corners of the globe journey to test the waters off Sligo's coast. Enniscrone welcomes surfers of all abilities and the various Surf Schools provide lessons and camps for youngsters, giving them the chance to try out the sport.

If water sports aren't your thing, Enniscrone offers a variety of land-based activities for visitors to partake in, such as yoga, golf and traditional Irish music sessions.

The Atlantic Ocean can be chilly even at the peak of summer. But don't worry, there are plenty of Irish pubs and eateries to warm you up after a dip.
