Have you ever encountered a peculiar food that still looks appetizing? This Japanese sandwich definitely falls into that category. At first, I was unsure about it, but it piqued my curiosity and even made me feel a little hungry.

After seeing how many people are fans of this unique creation, I'd like to join the club. Check out this video from July 8 and see if it would tempt you, too.

I wouldn't be upset if this trend caught on here. However, having this perfectly soft and squishy milk bread is likely essential, and @ japaneat tells us it worked with the whipped cream because it's already slightly sweet. As for the plain filling, he describes, "The cream itself was definitely buttery and had a more premium feeling than your average cream." While he may be trying not to hype this simple sandwich, he jokes that he ate 20. Yep, somehow, I can see this being a very addictive treat. It really isn't so different from eating cream-filled pastries like cream puffs or eclairs.

    Whipped Cream Japanese Sandos

These fascinating sandwiches, called Sandos in Japanese, are made with milk bread, also known as Shokupan . This exceptionally moist and chewy variety is produced by heating a slurry of flour and milk. This scalding process helps extend the shelf life by up to four days and ensures that it retains moisture. The simple filling is made with freshly whipped cream and a little sugar. Common fruits to find inside this sweet sandwich include strawberries, oranges, and kiwi. They sound like a delightful breakfast or afternoon snack. I might need to find the courage to whip up a loaf of this bread to taste it.

Are these simple sandwiches really delicious? Many people reported they are. One person confirmed, "I ate one the other day, and you are right; it's whipped cream and bread, but I wanted seven more." They must go down so easily, especially with a cup of coffee. Viewer @Sahil responded, "I used to eat these as a kid (> 20 years ago) with some sugar sprinkled on the cream for some crunch. Almost forgot about this." That doesn't sound like a bad idea. Another person shared, "The whipped cream is what's the magic. It's whipped until just before it becomes butter. That's why it looks so strange. Source: I'm a chef with 20 years of experience." That explains why it doesn't look watery or make the bread appear soggy.

Someday, when I travel to Japan, I'll have to remember to try this interesting Sando. But based on people's glowing reviews, I may need to buy more than just one.
