Legendary USA gymnast and Olympics superstar Simone Biles wants the false narrative that nobody watches women's sports to end. After all, the numbers say otherwise.
In a strong message to critics who do not put enough respect towards women's sports, Biles took to her Instagram Stories to share the latest viewership numbers that the Olympic trials for US gymnastics and track and field generated.
According to the latest data , the US gymnastic trials averaged 7.6 million viewers across NBC, peaking at 8.2 million viewers. Meanwhile, the US track and field trials garnered 4.5 million viewers, marking a 38 percent increase from the 2021 iteration of the event.
Biles then captioned her post with, "Psssstttt. What's that thing they say about women's sports?"
It's certainly great to see women's sports get more attention and viewership. While there's still a lot of work to be done to further grow the game, women's sports have certainly taken significant strides over the last few years.
The good news is that there are plenty of athletes who are helping boost the status of women's sports. Simone Biles, for one, continues to be the face of USA gymnastics. There are also the likes of WNBA All-Stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese who just bring so much attention to women's basketball.
Having said that, when the Olympics commence later this July, fans can expect women's sports to take center stage.
