Dozens of firefighters raced to the house and worked to battle the flames – while paramedics rushed to the scene.

London Fire Brigade said a child was one of six people injured in the inferno.

Tragically the youngster, whose age and gender has not been confirmed, could not be saved and died.

Five other people were rushed to hospital after the Napier Road inferno.

Assistant Commissioner Patrick Goulbourne today said: “This is a terribly sad incident and the thoughts of all of us at London Fire Brigade are with the family, friends and all those affected at this difficult time.

“Staff will be in the local community over the coming days to offer support and advice where needed.

“The welfare of our staff is very important and all those involved will be offered support from our counselling and trauma service.”

The cause of the fire is still being probed.

Six trucks and more than 60 firefighters battled the blaze, which was under control within half an hour.

Mayor of Newham Rokhsana Fiaz said before the tragic news broke: “Our thanks to our London Fire team in Newham London for their rapid response to this serious fire incident in East Ham.
