Roadkill. It's what's for dinner. Tourists that travel to Yellowstone National Park - some 3 million every year - aren't guaranteed to see bears when they visit the nation's oldest national park. But there's always a good chance that a bruin is lurking nearby, or in the case of this video, a couple
of bruins. This clip was taken near Yellowstone Lake, which is the largest high elevation lake in North America. It's a great place to take in the sights that Yellowstone has to offer, and it's apparently a great place for a mother grizzly and her grown bear cub to roam around looking for food. As the two bruins ran around on the hillside, visitors in their cars on the road below looked up to see the beautiful animals running around in their natural habitat. These five hundred pound beasts were running around without a worry in the world, though they did cause some Yellowstone tourists to worry when the pair went running down the hill and towards a grouping of cars. Thankfully, there weren't any "Tourons" who stepped out of their car to take videos of this mother and its cub. Everyone stayed in their vehicles to observe the bears in action, and as it turns out, the mother was going after some "free food" that was left out just for anyone to take. And by that, I mean roadkill. The mother bear must have gotten wind of the scent at some point, because she made a bee-line (or should I say bear-line) right towards it, with her older cub close behind. Once the mama grizzly got her teeth around the road kill, she proudly picked it up and ran back up the hill. Those shooting the video speculated that the "dinner" the bears would later share was likely a marmot - which are large ground squirrels that call the Yellowstone area home. Those that were on the road that day got to see quite the spectacle, and though it wasn't an exciting hunt with the mom opting to instead go for the fresh road kill as a meal, its still a really cool thing to witness while at Yellowstone. Luckily for us, we get to see it on video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hjGpy33u1A
