    Sarasota County deputy cruiser collides with cyclist

    A cyclist died as a result of injuries from a crash late Thursday evening with a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office vehicle, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

    FHP is investigating the death of the 22-year-old female victim who died at Sarasota Memorial Hospital from critical injuries a report shows.

    The victim was riding a bicycle around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when the driver of a marked Sarasota County Sheriff's Office SUV was traveling north on US-41, on the northbound outside lane, approaching a green traffic signal at the intersection of Bay Street. The female walked her bicycle across the roadway in front of the approaching SUV at the intersection of Bay Street, according to FHP, when the front left portion of the cruiser collided with her.

    FHP report shows the victim sustained critical injuries during te collision and was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

    The crash remains under investigation.
