Sexyy Red and André 3000 recently appeared on Lebron James’ digital show, ‘The Shop: Uninterrupted,’ and discussed the origin of their stage names.

The rappers had a light-hearted conversation filled with laughs as they candidly shared how their well-known monikers came to be.

Sexyy Red and André 3000 Discuss The Origin Of Their Rap Names

In the viral clip, André asked how people addressed the rapstress and how she would like to be addressed. “They call me Sexyy. You gone hear them say Sexyy.” the ‘Pound Town’ rapper answered. “So that’s cool if we say Sexyy?” the Outkast member asked. “Yea, that’s cool…” The 26-year-old said she doesn’t become angry when someone addresses her by the last part of her stage name, but she prefers Sexyy. “Aight Sexyy,” Stacks said in a low tone followed by a belly laugh.

Furthermore, she explained that “this dude” gave her the name “Sexyy” as they brainstormed a name to go before Red. She revealed they were uploading music on her YouTube channel, and she needed a name. She already had the name Red but added Sexyy after the man’s suggestion. Before that, she was called “Trill Red.” The ‘SkeeYee’ rapper said this is what people referred to her as on the streets.

Later in the conversation, the ‘The Way You Move’ artist revealed that his first rap name was “Black Wolf,” and Big Boi’s, his groupmate, was called “ Black Dog.” The lyricist said the names were created when they were 16. Additionally, he revealed that they had another group name before they called themselves ‘Outkast.’ He said, “Yeah, we was ‘2 Shades Deep.'” André said they were huge ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ fans, and 3-word names were popular then. He said they subsequently changed their name after a singing group at their high school called themselves, ‘4 Shades Deep.’ Sexyy couldn’t believe the singers copied their name. 3000 said they decided to go with ‘Outkast’ because they dressed differently than other students at their school. Sexyy responded, “Period,” seemingly in approval of the pair stepping outside the box with their style.

Social Media Reacts To Sexyy Redd & André’s Conversation

Commenters under The Shade Room’s post shared their feelings about the rappers’ exchange.

@superthickvegan said, “When he said ‘Aight Sexy’ I just MELTED!!!!!!! HE sounded too good and he look good too.”

“They be hating so bad on [Sexyy] and look at her in the room with THE Andre 3000,” @imjustashb_ wrote. “Sexyy Redd and Andre 3k having a civilized conversation was NOT on my 2024 bingo card,” @coopdajuice quipped. @earth2doni_realtor wrote, “The respect 3000 is giving Sexxy speaks volumes about him. Humble as they come.” We wonder if the two would ever collaborate on a record. With both of their track records of creating hits, it might just be a banger.
