Anthony Edwards completed his leap into superstardom over the 2023-24 NBA season, ending his season with a call-up to represent Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Edwards is getting a chance to be teammates with the stars who he competes hard against, telling Fadeaway World that he's happy to build positive relationships with his teammates.

"Really well. Me and Tyrese played together last year. Me and Bam always talk trash when we play Miami, me and AD always talk trash to each other. Me and JT, we go at it every time, Jrue. Embiid, we all always talk trash to each other, and D-Book. Being able to be here, amongst each other, and not talk trash and be on one team, the camaraderie is dope."

Edwards has spoken about the veteran stars of the team multiple times already, particularly showering Kevin Durant with praise. Naturally, the influence of LeBron James and Stephen Curry can't be ignored, but Edwards is embedding himself into the fabric of Team USA for the future.

Edwards averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists last season, leading the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals, the franchise's second appearance at that stage in history. He is one of the biggest names in the NBA at age 22, with a very bright future ahead of him where he could anchor Team USA like his idol Durant has since 2012.

Anthony Edwards Wants To Be Team USA's No. 1 Scoring Option

There's been a lot of talk around Edwards since the start of Team USA's training camp, as Edwards proclaimed himself as the team's No. 1 option .

"I’m still the number one option. Y’all might look at it differently, I don't care... I gotta go out there and do it myself. Shoot my shots, play defense, they got to fit in to play around me. That’s how I feel.”

Edwards' confidence in his abilities is one of the main reasons why he has such a rapidly expanding fanbase. Even though he did seem to back off while praising the likes of Durant as Team USA's 'Alpha ', Edwards would later reiterate his status as the team's No. 1 offensive option .

If Team USA's first friendly against Canada is anything to go by, Edwards did lead Team USA in scoring with 13 points off the bench. It seems he will most likely be starting off the bench, with coach Steve Kerr favoring a three-guard lineup featuring Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday, and Stephen Curry.

Players not on Team USA are also hyping up Edwards as the nation's No. 1 option, as reigning Finals MVP Jaylen Brown disregarded his three teammates on the squad to further promote Edwards as the team's No. 1 option . With all these expectations, Edwards needs to deliver when the Olympic games start.

Ant will have more opportunities to earn the starting spot on Team USA in their upcoming friendlies in Abu Dhabi against Serbia and Australia. Fadeaway World will bring you up-to-date information from the arena for those games, along with additional practices.
