( WJET/WFXP ) – A bill was passed in the PA House of Representatives that will make it easier for Pennsylvanians to claim their unclaimed property.

State Representative Ryan Bizzarro announced Thursday that the Modernizing Access to Treasury and Housing (MATH Act) to update the unclaimed property process at the PA Treasury has been passed in the House of Representatives.

HB 2092 mandates the automatic return of all property of $10,000 or less to any owner whose contact information can be verified through a new system of sharing through state agencies.

The legislation also created a statewide education campaign to reach these potential property owners and enacted safety provisions for consumers to help protect them.

“The unclaimed property process is cumbersome and antiquated,” said Bizzarro. “I`m proud to author this measure to connect more Pennsylvanians with the money that is rightfully theirs.”

The legislation also updated the process to notify people who have unclaimed property of over $10,000 if their contact information can be verified by the new system.
