MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Members of one of Mobile County’s oldest drug treatment programs are supporting the people who support them. Mission of Hope’s Thrift Store held its annual “customer appreciation day” this Saturday. Even before the doors open Saturday morning, a long line of people snakes around the building. People were eager to see what was available.

“To support the Mission of Hope and find great deals inside. I’m looking for dressers, you know, used furniture, different things, pitchers. There’s a great deal today,” said Christina Parkman from Theodore. As people shuffle inside, big discounts are offered on things that are normally inexpensive already.

“Well, you get the best deals. We have great prices anyway because we’re constantly getting stuff in every day. Our stores get inventory coming in every day. So we try to price stuff pretty fairly cheap to get out the door quick,” said Furniture Store Manager Patrick Rivers. Money raised by this thrift store event goes back into the work that happens a few miles away, at one of the Mission of Hope rehab facilities in Mobile County.

Patrick Rivers, Furniture Store Manager: a “Mission of Hope Ministries is a 90 day program for men and women. We have a campus in Mobile for men and a campus in Mount Vernon for women and women with children. We don’t charge any of our clients a dime. So it takes, you know, the items that are sold here. 100% of everything sold here goes back into that ministry to help keep those doors open, to help keep taking these clients in here,” said Rivers.
