Aston Villa has successfully secured the signing of Belgian international Amadou Onana from Everton for a hefty £50 million ($63.5 million).

Onana, who spent two seasons at Goodison Park following his transfer from Lille, is set to fill the void left by Douglas Luiz's move to Juventus. The acquisition signals a bold move from Villa manager Unai Emery, who is keen on assembling a team capable of competing both domestically and in Europe.

The 22-year-old midfielder, known for his robust tackling and dynamic presence, will undoubtedly bolster Villa's midfield. Despite his young age, Onana brings with him several years of top-tier football experience and has committed to a long-term contract with Villa.

Owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have cleverly navigated financial fair play regulations ahead of the end-of-June deadline. With Villa now flexing their financial muscle in the transfer market, Emery has been granted significant funds to ensure that the club maintains its Champions League status.

Joining Onana at Villa Park next week will be winger Jaden Philogene, who is set to make a surprising return to Villa less than a year after being sold to Hull City.

Philogene, one of Hull City's shining stars in the Championship last season, has been on the radar of numerous Premier League clubs. Ipswich Town have agreed to an £18m deal for Philogene, but Aston Villa had the foresight to include a buy-back clause in their agreement with Hull last year.

Mirror Football reported on Friday that Emery has chosen to match Ipswich's offer, and it is anticipated that Philogene will be at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training centre next week.

Liverpool.com says: Aston Villa has emerged as a new challenger to Liverpool in the Premier League top four picture. After last season's huge success under Unai Emery, the club looks to be making moves to stay towards the top of the table.

The capture of Onana in particular is a coup as Villa looks to take the next step and compete with the likes of Liverpool in the title race. It also weakens Liverpool's local rivals just down the road.
