Team USA Has Concerning Kevin Durant Update

Team USA made one major change to their roster earlier this week before heading to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Could another change be on the horizon with NBA superstar, Kevin Durant?

While preparing for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Team USA had a contingency plan in place for Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard. Injured during the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Leonard was attempting to get healthy enough to play.

He worked hard, as he took part in all activities with Team USA during training camp. However, it was decided this week to make a change with Leonard.

It was determined it would be best for him to focus on getting healthy and was released from the team. In his place, Team USA brought on Derrick White of the NBA Champion Boston Celtics.

He will be joining teammates Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday. That was something Team USA had planned; if there is such a plan for Kevin Durant, they have done a great job of keeping it under wraps.

“It’s not something we’ve even discussed at this point because we feel good that [Durant] is going to be OK,” head coach Steve Kerr said.

While Kerr seems unbothered by the calf injury Kevin Durant is dealing with, a decision will have to be made soon. He missed practice again on Saturday and is unlikely to take part in the team’s friendly against Australia on Monday.

“I know there’s still a couple of weeks before we have to make a decision roster-wise,” Kerr said. “So we’re just taking it day by day.”

Kevin Durant suffered this calf injury about two weeks ago. He was hoping that he would be healthy enough to play during Team USA’s trip to the United Arab Emirates, but that may not come to fruition.

This late in the process, it would be interesting to see what Team USA does should Kevin Durant need a replacement. There are plenty of NBA stars who would love to partake, as they could pull up a player from the Select Team that played against the National Team in training camp if need be.
