Parlay in Paradise: Your Guide to the Perfect Montego Bay Baecation

I’m low-key (high-key) tired of girl’s trips. While hanging out with my girlfriends is always a blast, I have been waiting for a romantic baecation. Who hasn’t? Well, my time was finally here. My 40th birthday was coming up, and while I usually make my birthday trip with my girls,  I wanted My man, My man, My man and I to go on our first baecation together.

I decided on Montego Bay because Jamaica is one of the few islands that can provide relaxation and a turn-up. After doing a TikTok search, I decided on Breathless Montego Bay Resort & Spa . This luxury resort is not far from the Hip Strip, where you can hang out, and it’s next door to two Secrets Resorts & Spas, which you will have access to.

Firstly, if you’ve ever flown to Jamaica, you know how long the customs lines can be. I made sure to get Club MoBay , an expedited VIP service that gets you through the security lines faster and comes with lounge access, including unlimited food and drinks. Trust me, you do not want to wait in the lines for hours. It’s well worth the cost.

We stayed in a sexy Xhale Club Master Suite Ocean View room, which had a bar, mood lighting, a large shower, and a hot tub on the balcony overlooking the bay. The Xhale Club rooms also receive butler service. Our butler, David, held us down to keep the romantic mood going.

Baecation planning is different from the girls’ trip planning. Here are my tips for a perfect baecation:

1. To Vibe or to Turn Up? Finding the right balance between relaxation and excitement is critical. I prefer relaxing vibes, while my boo loves to turn up and socialize. The beauty of our resort was its versatility. It had everything from lit parties to chill lounges at their sister resort, Secrets, allowing us to choose our vibe each day. Plus, meeting other couples added a fun social element, giving us new friends to hang out with.

2. Coordinate Outfits It might sound corny, but I love a well-coordinated couple look. Before the trip, I shopped for outfits that matched my neutral palette, ensuring our vacation photos would be flawless. We coordinate outfits on girls’ trips, so why not do it for baecations too? It’s fun and makes for great pictures.

3. Celebrate Special Occasions Always let the resort know if you’re celebrating something special. They’ll go the extra mile to set the mood. Our butler, David, had bottles on ice ready for us in the room and kept the Bob Marley cocktails flowing. The birthday balloons and bubble bath prepared for me on arrival at the hotel was so special.

4. Do a Spa Day No baecation is complete without a spa day. Schedule a couples massage to relax and set the mood. I had a Relaxation Massage at Secrets Wild Orchid , just a short distance from their sister resort, Breathless. I arrived early to enjoy the water therapy circuit, the perfect start to a blissful day.

5. Disconnect to Reconnect: Put down the phones and disconnect from social media. Use this time to enjoy each other’s company truly, have conversations, and connect on a deeper level. Social media will still be there when you get back, but these moments together are irreplaceable.

6. Plan a Romantic Dinner The highlight of our trip was the candlelit dinner on the water at Secrets Resort, under the stars. Listening to the waves, drinking champagne, and enjoying great food while making googly eyes at each other was incredibly special. It was a moment we’ll cherish forever.

7. Have a Lit Day. For a fun and exciting day, try an excursion like Island Routes’ Reggae Catamaran and Snorkeling Cruise in Montego Bay. With bottomless drinks, a light lunch, and great music, it’s a lit experience. Exploring, dancing, and having fun with your bae make for unforgettable memories.

8. Capture the Moment While it’s essential to be in the moment, capturing memories is also a big part of the experience. This may seem counterproductive to disconnecting, but it’s the social media era. I’m slowly turning my bae into an ‘Instagram Boyfriend,’ teaching him my angles and the shots I like. Sharing these special moments on social media and with friends and family back home is part of the fun.

I’m no expert at baecations, but these elements made for an unforgettable experience with my man, bringing us closer than ever. The tropical atmosphere, beautiful beach moments, and heartfelt conversations were incredibly special. I can’t wait to plan our next romantic getaway.
