Lucky Maryland lottery winner bags two $50,000 prizes two years apart

Winning the lottery would be a dream come true for most and one lucky lottery winner has managed to see it become a reality not once but twice.

The Maryland man, from Anne Arundel County, bagged his first $50,000 prize back in 2022. Now the regular player has gone and done it again. “Just put, ‘AA County Man strikes again!’” the anonymous winner told lottery officials after claiming a $50,000 prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on July 11.

His first win happened in June 2022, when he won the same amount on two 50-cent Pick 5 tickets – claiming $25,000 each. This time around he won the entire $50,000 on a single $1 ticket.

The lottery player used his friend's birthday on a single straight bet ticket for the evening drawing on July 5, and it won. He believes it won't be long until he strikes lucky again.

He said: "As long as I got faith and belief! I realize every draw can win." While thrilled about his most recent win, the man had a relatively low-key reaction.

“I said, ‘Oh wow,’” he recalls. His plans for the money are similarly mundane, he revealed: “I’m going to put it in savings.”

The man intends to keep his lottery wins a secret. But the store that sold him the ticket has proudly announced who they are. The Safeway grocery store at 1781 Forest Drive in Annapolis will receive a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.

The AA County Man isn't the only Maryland resident to bag more than one lottery win. Another Maryland man won the lottery twice with his grandmother's advice and secured $150,000 in prizes.

"My grandmother told me that not everyone can be lucky every day," the man told the Maryland Lottery. He has a trick to continue to play the game without spending too much.

The Baltimore resident buys two scratch-off tickets when he feels the desire to play the lottery. If neither ticket is a winner, that's it for the day. If one has any amount of winnings on it, he continues to buy tickets and play the game.

That's the technique that led him to a $50,000 prize on a Mega Money ticket he bought at EZ Quick Food Market on Mountain Road in Pasadena. He told lottery officials that his grandmother's advice has "earned him more than $150,000 in prize money over the years."

"I've won big twice before, but the last time was a long time ago," he said. "I wasn't sure it would ever happen again," he says.
