Tucker Carlson previously described former President Donald Trump as “mentally ill” during a private conversation with a Fox News guest, the person claimed on Saturday.

John McCormack , senior editor at The Dispatch, made the claim on his page on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter on Saturday morning.

McCormack tweeted reporting from The New York Times that previously appeared to show Carlson criticizing Trump as a “demonic force” and a “destroyer” he hated “passionately.”

The editor shared his own account of what he said were Carlson’s true feelings about the country’s 45th president just a few years before.

“In March of 2016, Tucker told me in the Fox News green room that Trump was ‘not evil’—just ‘mentally ill,’” McCormack posted. “Interesting to see how his views evolved over four years. Perhaps a good topic for his convention speech.”

McCormack shared his anecdote in response to reporting from The New York Times early Saturday that Carlson had been tapped as a prominent speaker at this week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

    The report claimed :

Tucker Carlson will be getting a prime time speaking slot at the Republican Convention on the night Trump is nominated, according to two people with direct knowledge of the schedule.

The RNC will kick off on Monday evening and will conclude on Thursday evening.

Trump is expected to be chosen as the GOP’s presidential nominee for a third consecutive election.
