Ready or not, here it comes: Another week of sweltering heat is in store for Delaware. After a brief, rainy respite for some parts on Friday and Saturday, the excessive heat and humidity will return starting Sunday, the National Weather Service said.

A heat advisory has been issued for parts of northern Delaware from 10 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, with heat index values ranging from 100 to 103 degrees.

An excessive heat watch has been issued for the entire state starting Tuesday morning and continuing through Wednesday evening, with the heat index potentially reaching 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologist Sarah Johnson said that as of Saturday morning, it appears that a cold front may come through on Wednesday to lower temperatures to the mid- to high 80s in the area on Thursday and Friday.

"It's all relative ... but it will feel quite a bit better as compared to what we're going to see over the next two or three days," Johnson said.

The National Weather Service cautions Delawareans to keep an eye out for signs of heat-related illnesses while under these watches and advisories. Residents should drink plenty of water; stay out of the sun; remain in air-conditioned rooms; and check on relatives and neighbors, particularly older adults.

Free cooling stations have been set up across the state for anyone without access to AC, and indoor activities like museums and discounted movie tickets offer other cool, indoor alternatives to help the whole family beat the heat.
