For the fourth year in a row Christy Williams is organizing Jefferson County’s participation in the Annual Statewide Bible Reading.

“The response has been good,” Williams said. “I would like to see it grow and have more people hear about it. It’s kind of a grassroots movement. There isn’t an organization per se, it’s just a bunch of individuals volunteering to organize it for their counties.”

Plans are for local volunteers to gather July 14, at 7:14 a.m. and read from the Bible on the Jefferson County Courthouse lawn.

“The idea is to have the word of God read across the entire state within the hour,” Williams said. “The entire Bible will be read across the state within the hour. It all goes back to His promise that the word will not return void. This year, the goal is to have a Worldwide Bible Reading as well, that is the Bible being read in every time zone around the world!”

The event was created by Georgia 7/14 Coordinator Jerri Tuck, and has been taking place for six years now.

The date and time refer to the scripture in 2 Chronicles 7:14 which refers to God’s call to His people to turn to Him in repentance that He may forgive their sin and heal their land, Wiliams explained.

Tuck has also pointed to 1 Timothy 4:13 where Paul encourages Timothy to devote himself to public readings of scripture.

“I feel like anytime we can declare the word of the Lord over our government buildings, in particular, and we can come together in unity in Christ as a community, that speaks something into the atmosphere that the Lord can use. I want to be obedient in that and make sure it happens for Jefferson County,” Williams said.

This year those participating in Jefferson County will read from Psalms 103-108.

Any churches or individuals wishing to participate are welcome, Williams said. For additional information she can be reached at williamscm17@gmail.com or 706-658-7215.
