Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones says she’s “open” to revisiting the role that made her famous and catapulted her career.

The BBC romantic drama series, which also starred Paul Mescal , was based on the bestselling novel by Sally Rooney and centered on two young lovers navigating the challenges of life, school, and growing up.

Edgar-Jones, who starred as Marianne alongside Mescal’s Connell in the hit show, told BBC News : “I love those characters. It would be wonderful to explore them again.” She added: “If [Rooney] is up for writing a new story, who knows… Keeping it open. Always open.”

The series debuted in April 2020 on BBC Three in the UK and on Hulu in the US and was watched by millions of households during the pandemic lockdowns. Edgar-Jones told the BBC: “It introduced Paul and I to a lot of people and film-makers.”

While there hasn’t been any talk of bringing back Normal People , it’s at least exciting to know that Edgar-Jones is game to star in some additional iteration of it.

Since the series ended, Edgar-Jones has starred in the films Fresh and Where the Crawdads Sing and will appear alongside Glen Powell in Twisters , which is out this month.

Mescal was nominated for an Oscar in 2023 for his role in the movie Aftersun in 2023 and is set to star in the highly-anticipated Gladiator II .

Regarding her upcoming role alongside Powell, Edgar-Jones said: “I feel like I have a habit of starring with a lot of the men of the moment.” Powell has starred in such hits as Top Gun: Maverick , Anyone But You , and Hit Man .
