Stephen A. Smith Hilariously Claims Ben Simmons Is Lucky To Not Be In Prison

Ben Simmons has become a bit of a forgotten man in the NBA, due in large part to the fact that he simply cannot find a way to stay on the court.

Despite that, Simmons continues to rack in large sums of money for playing very little basketball. Over the past three seasons, Simmoms has made over $106 million, despite playing just 57 total games. That doesn't even add up to one full NBA season.

It's for that reason that popular sports commentator Stephen A. Smith believes Simmons is lucky to not be in prison for robbery.

Simmons is entering the final year of his five-year, $177.2 million contract, and he's set to make over $40 million in the 2024-25 campaign. Even when he's been healthy and on the floor, Simmons hasn't come close to being worth that amount of money.

In just 15 games for the Brooklyn Nets last season, Simmons struggled to make a consistent impact (6.1 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 5.7 APG, 58.1 FG%) as he continues to look like a shell of his former self.

After his contract with the Nets ends, it will be interesting to see what happens to Simmons. And while Smith thinks he needs to be charged for robbing teams across the NBA, it's safe to say his next contract, if he gets one, won't pay him nearly as much as he's received so far in his career.
