Spain is poised to defy the law on Sunday when Lamine Yamal, a mere 17-year-old , faces off against England in the Euro 2024 final.

Yamal, who celebrated his 17th birthday on Saturday, has been the breakout star of this summer's Euros in Germany, making headlines midweek with a stunning goal against France. The Barcelona soccer prodigy unleashed a 25-yard missile with his preferred left foot, equalizing for Spain in the first half after an early French lead.

Dani Olmo, Yamal's teammate, then put La Roja in the lead with a deflected shot, and Luis de la Fuente's players held their ground to secure their spot in Berlin. A day later, England made it to the final in a much more dramatic manner.

Ollie Watkins' 91st-minute goal completed a comeback against the Netherlands, winning 2-1 from one goal down. Now, Gareth Southgate and his team will have the task of keeping Yamal at bay, hoping he doesn't shatter English hopes as well as German law.

The reason Yamal technically shouldn't be allowed to play is that in Germany, individuals under 18 are not permitted to work past 8pm (Central European Time). However, it's believed exceptions exist for athletes. So, there's no fretting over Yamal being barred from the final, having played in several 9pm games throughout the tournament.

Yamal has been nothing short of sensational, dishing out an assist in Spain's 3-0 thrashing of Croatia in its first match, then serving up two more in the knockout stages. And on Tuesday, he bagged his debut goal on German soil a stunner that zipped past French keeper Mike Maignan and into the net, setting the stage for a final that's got everyone talking.

Spain boss De la Fuente said after his team's win against France: "We saw a touch of genius from a footballer, we all know who he (Yamal) is... We need to take care of him. And I, from here, want to give him some advice, the same way that I do in private. I would like him to work with the same humility and keep his feet on the ground."

On his superb goal, Yamal said: "I don’t know if this was the best goal in the tournament but it is the most special for me. Getting to the final with the national team in the Euro is something super special for me. I don’t know if I am the icon or not, it doesn’t really help anything on the pitch. I need to help my team, that’s what I try to do and what I tried to do today."
