Regardless of whether or not you are the last guy off the bench of the biggest name in the game, all players in the NBA are stars in one way or another. While being famous and having lots of money generally seems fun, some downsides come with it too.

Having all of those things makes you a target, especially nowadays in the world of social media. With that in mind, Richard Jefferson shared how women have been scamming NBA players for years and how it’s still an issue that these players are dealing with.

RJ on one of the downsides of being in the NBA

Jefferson spent 17 years in the NBA, so he knows what it’s like to deal with the fame that comes with being a professional basketball player. He was never a superstar, but RJ was a solid player and was generally well-known by folks everywhere.

That still was enough for “R.J.” to become a target in the eyes of folks who wanted to take advantage of him. While it never happened to him personally, Jefferson shared a story about how he witnessed two guys fall for a scam that hundreds of NBA players have fallen into before.

“There was a city in the NBA, and whenever you went to that city, there was one club promoter, she was a female,” Jefferson said on his own Youtube channel. “It didn’t matter what time you landed, it didn’t matter what day it was, she would pack out the clubs. Even if you landed there late, the club would stay open for another hour…as long as the guys were gonna show up there.”

“Everyone in the league knew this girl. She was the promoter for the NBA, and probably a lot of other sports, I just know the NBA. Fast forward a couple years, everyone’s going to parties, everyone’s having a good time, two girls, two guys, they go back. They wake up, all their jewelry is gone. You hear these stories, these are true stories, and it’s not just this and that, but it is just crazy to me that even still today these are the same things that are still going on,” Jefferson added.

Jefferson on how women scam NBA players

This has been an issue that NBA players, or really all professional athletes, have had to deal with for years. But with social media becoming more and more popular, it’s become an even bigger problem that these guys have had to deal with.

RJ shares how these two players left a club with women and ended up getting robbed once they fell asleep. That’s the sort of trap you can get ensnared in when you are famous and have nice things, and these guys found that out the hard way.

The scary thing is that these sorts of situations are only getting more dangerous. Jefferson’s rant on this topic came after he saw a clip of Aaron Gordon revealing that he saw a girl who had looked up his net worth on her phone before they went out on a date.

If you aren’t careful, people will do whatever they can to take whatever you have, especially when you reach the heights that NBA players reach. Richard is shocked that this is still an issue in the NBA, and hopefully, his story here will help players become more aware of these sorts of traps.
