A tornado warning issued for southeastern Portage County earlier Saturday evening has expired.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Lake Wazeecha, 10 miles east of Wisconsin Rapids, moving east at 35 mph., at 6:08 p.m. Saturday.

The storm impacted areas near Amherst, Coddington, Meehan, Nelsonville, Keene, Fancher, Amherst Junction, Blaine, Arnott, Bancroft and Plover, the weather service said.

The storm that prompted the warning weakened below severe limits, and no longer appears capable of producing a tornado. However, gusty winds and heavy rain are still possible with this thunderstorm, the national weather service said.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. for central Wisconsin.
