MADERA COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A man was pulled from Redinger Lake Saturday morning after his friends had reported him missing Friday evening, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office says.

Deputies say around 9:30 p.m., they responded to a call for service regarding a person who had stated their friend went missing after going for a swim alone.

Upon arrival responding units searched the shoreline for the 60-year-old man. After finding his wallet and shoes at the boat launch, investigators say a Search and Rescue team, the Boat Patrol Unit, and an infrared UAV were deployed to expand the search.

Around 8 a.m. Saturday morning, detectives report the dive team found the missing man submerged in the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies are actively working to determine the circumstances leading up to the drowning and are withholding his identity pending notification of next of kin.
