    California representatives react to attempted assassination of Donald Trump

    (FOX40.COM) — Some California government representatives are speaking out after an assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump at his Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.

    Around 4 p.m., several gunshots rang out in Butler, Pennsylvania, as Trump spoke at a podium. Video footage shows Trump seemingly holding his ear with blood dripping down his face.

    “Violence has NO place in our democracy. My thoughts are with President Trump and everyone impacted at the rally today,” Governor Gavin Newsom said on X .

    AP reported that at least one attendee and a gunman are dead.

    “I condemn this cowardly act in the strongest terms,” said U.S. Representative Ami Bera. “I am relieved that the former president is safe and I am praying for all those who were hurt at tonight’s rally.”

    Chilling screams could be heard in the crowd as shots rang out.

    “My thoughts and prayers are with President Trump for a speedy recovery and with the families of the innocent rally supporters who were tragically affected,” said Steve Garvey who is currently running for U.S Senate.

    U.S. Representative for California’s 30th congressional district Adam Schiff shared similar sentiments.

    “(I’m) horrified by this apparent assassination attempt. There is no place for political violence in our democracy. Absolutely none,” Schiff said . “Grateful for the swift response by law enforcement and Secret Service. Wishing President Trump a swift recovery.”

    Around 5:45 p.m., the X account for Trump’s Campaign wrote , “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”

    AP confirmed the shooting is being investigated as an assassination attempt.
